Leadership by Richard
L. Hughes, Robert C. Ginnett, Gordy J. Curphy. 2015 8th Edition Book Review
Find articles as you are reading in your new subscription to
the Wall Street Journal about business, government, or non-profit organization
leaders. Pick out one or two articles you find particularly interesting
and attempt to analyze the situation described in the article in light of the
readings in your text.
Follow
the same format presented for Forum Post #1. Find a recent article (after
x/xx) of the Wall Street Journal concerning a leader and situation you are
interested in. For that, leader and situation summarize the dynamics of the
situation and the leader's actions. Address the three questions below in your
analysis:
Does the
dynamic in the article seem to be a great application of the "Leader,
Follower, Situation" interactional framework? If so,
how?
Does the
leader show signs of emotional intelligence (explained in Chapter 6)? If
so, how does it affect the followers and the situation?
Thinking
through the "Leadership Grid" (figure 7-2), what style of leadership
seems more relevant for this leader and why? Describe specific examples that
support that style!
What
leadership competencies (Ch. 7) does this leader portray? Again, cite specific
examples of the competencies!
For the
leader article that you feel most comfortable with your conceptual analysis and
application, post a well written 4-5 paragraph post including the following:
1.
Citation for the WSJ article, use APA format (link to the library resources on
the left if you are unsure how to cite newspaper articles in APA format).
2.
A summary of the people and dynamics in the article (okay to paraphrase
or quote but use italics if you do)
3.
Your analysis and application of the relevant textbook framework (responses to
the questions above).
4.
Any advice you have for the leader - did they handle the situation properly or
what might they have done differently?
