A Sample Essay Paper on Plato’s “Allegory of the
Cave
Examples of Plato’s
“Allegory of the Cave” are all around us, historically, sociologically,
psychologically, intellectually, and personally. For this final piece of
writing, you will leave me with a personal narrative that recounts a time when
you came out of the cave. Maybe you crawled or fought your way out to the top,
maybe you stumbled out of the dark and into the daylight, or maybe you were
dragged out by someone else. How have you experienced a logical realization
that changed your former views of life and the world around you? Remember, the
experience must go beyond finding a new belief in a concept, person, or faith
because all of our senses are abstract and often deceive us. Provide a concrete
example.
Did you go back to tell
others about your realization? What were their reactions or resistance to your
great epiphany?
In addition to the
above, your final essay should:
§ be a standard
five paragraphs or more
§ contain an
appropriate introduction and conclusion
§ feature a
creative title
§ be double
spaced and in 12 point Times New Roman font
§ define an
ignorance and logic fallacy
§ describe and
show, not tell, using vivid imagery and varied vocabulary
§ demonstrate
good use of mechanics and varied sentence structure
Creativity is honored
here, but be sure to stick to the questions.
