First, please ensure you have read chapter 6 (starting on page 75) in the textbook and the HBS case: “How US Healthcare Got Safer By Focusing on the Patient Experience.”

The case study concludes with the paragraph:

If they believe that the organization cares about quality and safety, and if core values include compassion for patients and teamwork, there is a good chance that better quality and financial performance will follow.”

A few questions I am interested in your perspective on. 

-- Based on your reading of the case, do you agree with the statement the case concluded with?  If so, why?  If not, why not?

-- The use of the word “believe” makes me think perhaps there is a marketing element to how patients view and experience the “patient experience.”  Do you agree?  If yes, why?  If no, why not?

-- What would you do if you were asked to develop a marketing plan to promote the patient experience at a hospital?  What would be your objective?  What would be your  key audiences?  What are some strategies (i.e., approaches) you would consider?  How would you measure success of your marketing plan?

-- Are there ethical considerations involved in marketing the “patient experience?”  If yes, what are some?  If no, why not?
