Staffing and Training

Part A: Staffing: (20 marks)

  Shamrock Long Term Care Center Dietary Department is in the midst of change.  Due to a rebuild of the Long Term Care Centre, the department will require modification.  Presently all the residents eat their meal in one Dining Room that is “fed” from a centralized kitchen.  The rebuild will have 3 serveries/dining rooms with 30 residents in each dining room with a centralized kitchen.

The present staffing schedule is as follows:

Cooks- 15 hour per day
One shift 6AM – 2PM
One shift 10AM- 6:00PM

Dietary Aides- 21 hours per day
One shift 6AM- 2PM
One shift 11AM-7PM
One shift 8AM-2PM

The dining rooms are in separate areas of the Home, therefore the kitchen will provide a decentralized meal service.

Rough work (must be included in assignment):

1.      Create a staffing schedule for one day (shifts) using the minimum provided allotted hours from the LTC Standards (0.45hr/day). Note: Dietary/cook duties include setting up the tables in the dining room; plating the meals and clearing the tables.
2.      State your reasons for the proposed staffing schedule; including any changes to shift   times/lengths. Give a brief overview of each shifts’ responsibilities.

Formal report:

1. You must present this proposal, in a formal document, to Senior Management as well as the Union. Be concise, detailed and persuasive. Be clear in your reasoning. Include pertinent calculations for their reference.




Part B: Training Budget: (10 marks)

The 2019 budget negotiations are in progress.

As the NM you must calculate the cost of staff training for your Operational Budget.

You have 6 full time and 9 part time dietary staff who are paid and average of $20.00/hour.

Training is to be completed on premise, within scheduled hours and with no disruption of services.

Mandatory training includes: WHMIS
                                                Safe Food Handling
                                               Code of Conduct
                                               Fire/Emergency Training

Include your calculations as well as your plan for implementation to complete the required training. State the budget dollars you will be requesting to be included in the 2019 budget for training.
