They were slaves and most of them very poor.
The black community was less educated and had no access to weapons. Martin Luther King wanted recognition for his black community as equal members of the American society but he never wanted to see any bloodshed in his pursuit. A nonviolent contest was not easy, sometimes, members of his movements could prefer violence, but Martin Luther king objected. In 1963 he organized he delivered his famous “I have a dream” speech. Though he died before seeing the light of his nonviolent war, today all that he wanted for the black community has become a reality. Obama was termed as Martin Luther King’s fulfillment. Malcom X who coexisted Martin Luther always termed Martin as a coward who opted for dialogue and civil disobedience rather than engaging the white government in a violent contest. He was awarded a Presidential Medal of Freedom. A national holiday was set for his recognition and hundreds of streets were named after him.
